Los Angeles-based TAIKOPROJECT, the first American taiko group to win the prestigious Tokyo International Taiko Contest, will join forces with Gamelan Merdu Kumala for two unforgettable performances. TAIKOPROJECT, founded in 2000 by visionary taiko drummers Bryan Yamami and Masato Baba, has continuously pushed the boundaries of traditional taiko. With a modern American style that blends time-honored rhythms with innovative and fresh aesthetics, TAIKOPROJECT has captivated audiences worldwide. Gamelan Merdu Kumala, founded in 2014 by Hirotaka Inuzuka, is a grassroots organization based in Tujunga, California, that is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich tradition of Balinese gamelan music. This community-driven ensemble offers classes, workshops, and performances to foster a deep connection with the music and create a shared experience of cultural unity.
