Some of this will sound like home, and some of it will catch you off guard. American music has been changing for a century, and this night follows that change from one composer to the next.
Aaron Copland's Piano Quartet and Elliott Carter's Sonata for flute, oboe, cello, and harpsichord (an early keyboard instrument) anchor the evening. William Kraft's final work, Mosaic, was pieced together from his sketches after he died by his wife, the composer Joan Huang. George Rochberg and Steven Gerber fill out the program.
Come hear how these composers heard their country, one sound at a time.
Come with someone who wants to hear where American music has been.
