Street Symphony: Bach, Mariachi & Community

Experience the powerful work of Street Symphony at Sierra Madre Playhouse, where music becomes a bridge to connection, healing, and hope.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of music and story with Street Symphony, a collective of world-class musicians dedicated to bringing the transformative power of live performance to people experiencing homelessness, incarceration, and other forms of extreme marginalization. Led by violinist and MacArthur Fellow Vijay Gupta, this performance features members of Street Symphony alongside special guests from Los Angeles’s vibrant musical community.

The centerpiece of the evening will be a performance of J.S. Bach’s Cantata BWV 82 “Ich habe genug”, with a community narrator offering a contemporary reflection woven between the music’s timeless arias and recitatives.

The program also features the electrifying all-women mariachi ensemble Las Chorizeras, led by vocalist Nancy Sanchez, bringing their signature blend of tradition, virtuosity, and spirit.

This is a rare opportunity to experience classical, mariachi, and community-rooted music in dialogue—sharing the stage, telling stories, and celebrating music’s power to connect across cultures and experiences.

Free from orchestral formality, this concert embraces warmth and immediacy, breaking the fourth wall to draw the audience into a shared experience. Every artist on stage is dedicated to using music as a force for dignity, renewal, and community — on stage, on the street, and everywhere in between.

Street Symphony has transformed the lives of Los Angeles’ homeless and incarcerated communities by bringing world-class music directly into Skid Row shelters, clinics, and LA County jails.

By joining us for this inspiring evening, you’ll directly support Street Symphony’s mission, helping them continue their vital work of bringing transformative music and connection to those who need it most.
